Why should you look at this site?
The answer is simply that this is an honest site. In 4 and 1/2 years on the internet I think I can say that this is one of the few sites that does not deal in innuendo,outrageous promises, or out right lying to you.
I started out in Orange County N.Y. in the beginning of the Great Depression.Things were very different then. I don't remember it but my father broke 3 vertebrae in his lower back. He was a engineer on a locomotive. He had a very sure self confidence that made it a little hard to please him.He would show you how once and from that point on you were expected to do it right. At the time I thought I was the worst off kid living.The things I learned from him were Truthfulness,Honesty and Work.To this day I haven't lost those values. Due to his accident we lived on welfare. If any thing will mark a person this will do it. Despite having days where he could not move he worked as a laborer until he died. This experience made me very conscious of other people and their actions.You see back then anybody on welfare was slightly less than a nice person.
I guess this upbringing had the effect of putting a ramrod up my back. I took nothing from those who chose to look down on my sister and me. In a small town of 3500 everybody knows everybody. There was no hiding or getting lost. It has instilled in me a less than charitable feeling for those who are able bodied and live of the dole.
Such is the case today. We have a depression but to compare it to the Great Depression is like comparing a misty shower to a torrential thunderstorm.
I am glad I grew up in this time period because it taught me many things missing in today's society. I was restoring an old painting in an art gallery some time ago and a young fellow of 20 some was talking to me. I happened to use the word Integrity and he asked "What's that?" This serves to show how society loses words and meanings. I find it astonishing that today young people will live on food stamps and welfare with out the least concern. I am 83 years old and to some lost my usefulness. But I have collected unemployment for 2 weeks total in my lifetime. Sorry to say I was a teacher in a Calif School District and was applauded for the number of students in my classroom and how many stayed in the classes as the years progressed.Today if you try to rate a teacher you are met with a union that tells you ,you can't do that.
From my perspective all things have degraded in the past 50 years.Not the material objects or mechanical or electronic gadgets but the quality of life and learning. The me generation would not have survived the Great Depression.
